"I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel," - Paul.
The concept of 'Proper clothing' is not just a set of rules but a profound call to align our attire with our devotion to our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. It's a fascinating concept, the source of garments in which 'modestly and discreetly' should be applied. It's a call to avoid amplifying unrighteous attention to the wardrobe with 'braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel.' It should not be about us, but our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
We must agree with the context found in 1 Tim. 2:9, recognizing the permissible (and logical) principle recorded within the inspired accounts about modesty and appropriateness. Lack of proper clothing (i.e., showing too much skin which flirts with private bodily locations) can often draw undesired and unrighteous attention to oneself, along with flamboyant jewelry, neon-coloured hair, facilitating and magnifying exotic or loud clothing; in the podcast, we go through a few Scriptural accounts pointing to this reasonable position. The Greek word "katastole" (1 Tim. 2:9) is an exciting word that involves various descriptors pointing to several tenants of the "apparel."
According to the New Testament, the essence of modesty lies in the heart. What is found within us, a willingness to be worldly or like Christ?
For many of us, it is a personal struggle that we navigate, trying to renew our minds away from worldly influences and towards the love of Christ. Yet, we strive to stay approachable and fruitful for our Honourable King and encourage you to do the same in your journey. Blessings.
Your servant,
SM
